Plus NBC names the new Late Night host, will Dan Harmon return to Community and does the How I Met Your Mother finale include a big reveal?

News

Did I say this time of the year is my Christmas? Scratch that, it’s Thanksgiving before I learned to take tiny portions the first time around and wait twenty minutes before getting more. I am in whatever you’d call the TV industry junkie version of a tryptophan coma. There’s a whole lof of news and hopefully I’ve managed to take Instagram pictures of all all the interesting dishes.

NBC announced its fall schedule with Parenthood moving to Thursday, James Spader procedural The Blacklist getting the post-Voice slot and a pair of thrillers (Dracula and the pirate drama Crossbones) set to follow Grimm on Friday nights. Vulture‘s Josef Adalian notes that the network seems to be lurching towards the mainstream, stepping away from the edgy programming of its fourth-place days. I wonder if it will go as well as when CBS was in fourth place and tried to go edgy for six months (remember Central Park West? Courthouse? Dweebs?)

Community

Missing from NBC’s schedule, but getting a fifth season order is Community. Thirteen episodes were ordered but no premiere date has been announced.
Deadline suggests that creator Dan Harmon might return to the series, now that Chevy Chase has quit the show.

Meanwhile, NBC says it hasn’t decided on the fate of three shows, but the only one that matters is Hannibal. Come on, NBC, can’t you wait one more season before dashing my dream of seeing a Bryan Fuller series make it to season five.

One NBC series, The Family Guide is already losing me with the news that Parker Posey has left the series, not having a good experience on the pilot. Posey was the one thing that drew my attention to the show.

NBC also settled its late night schedule, announcing that Seth Meyers will be the next Late Night host when Jimmy Fallon graduates to The Tonight Show.

Seth Meyers

There’s a Spanish-language version of Breaking Bad called Metastasis, in the works. (It’s not clear, but I’m hoping that means a telenovela version of Breaking Bad.) Originally, it was announced as mart of UniMas’ upcoming programs but Deadline reported that announcement was premature. A pilot for Metastasis was filmed and is currently being shopped to different networks, but hasn’t been sold yet. If they subtitle it, I will end up paying for the Latin channel cable teir, I cannot wait to see the telenovela version of Skyler White. Plus, mun2 has yet to pick up a series half as compelling as La Reina del Sur.

Meanwhile, not all the renewal/cancellation news came from the broadcast networks. Syfy ordered a second season of the MMO setting/TV series Defiance.

The end is near for Burn Notice, which will wrap at the end of the upcoming, seventh season. I’m a fan of the show but relieved at this news. The past couple seasons have really struggled to figure out a direction.

Burn Notice

TBS also announced two new series. One is a reality drama that follows CeeLo Green. The other is a comedy from Scrubs and Cougar Town co-creator Bill Lawrence called Ground Floor, which follows an “alpha male” banker who realizes he’s not happy with his life.

Thanks to a shipping mistake, pre-ordered copies of the current season of Doctor Who might have arrived in fans’ mailboxes, despite the finale not airing until Saturday. The BBC has asked anyone who receives the DVD from posting spoilers, but since that sounds as likely as the Sunday morning talk shows going a month without feeling the need to get John McCain‘s opinion about something. Be careful out there if avoiding spoilers is important to you.

In a bit of non-upfront presentation news, at a panel discussion Bates Motel producer Carlton Cuse admitted the prequel series’ debt to Twin Peaks. “I loved that show,” Cuse explained, “They only did 30 episodes. (fellow Executive Producer Kerry Ehrin) and I thought we’d do the 70 that are missing.”

The cast of American Horror Story‘s third season continues to get more and more amazing with the addition of Angela Bassett and Patti LuPone.

Nick rushes to tell Gabi, “If anyone tells you I’ve expressed homophobic attitudes, that doesn’t make me homophobic!” But he finds himself cornered by Will and Sonny, which seems likely to annoy Nick enough to get him to blurt out an angry word beginning with an ‘F’.

How I Met Your Mother (CBS) 8:00 PM ET
Having predicted that you would be mourning Happy Endings by now, How I Met Your Mother has got Casey Wilson in the finale. That means you won’t be wandering aound a bar muttering “Penny Hartz? Penny Hartz? Penny Hartz-Hitler?” in sadness.  On HIMYM Wilson will play half of “an obnoxious couple” (along with Keegan-Michael Key) who ruins Barney and Robin‘s night out.

How I Met Your Mother, "Something New"

2 Broke Girls (CBS) 9:00 PM ET
After finding the first season incredibly frustrating, I gave up on this show when it showed no sign of improvement in the second season. Still, tonight’s season finale has Tom Bagley, which works as a reason to tune and see if this show still stubbornly continues to rely on racial stereotypes… or yelling at the internet to get off the lawn… or reminders that hipster jokes have become the realm of hacks.

Bates Motel (A&E) 10:00 PMET
Norma finally has the proper reaction when a villainous Jere Burns comes to town — she announces they’re leaving this crazy town. Norman objects to the idea, wondering if it’s the town that’s crazy or if its them. Can’t it be both?

Bates Motel, "Underwater"

Felt (Logo) 10:00PM ET
“A man criticizes his husband’s soft abs.” On this felt puppet show, I don’t know if that means getting meta or we’re going to see the dramatization of a couple dealing with fat shaming.

Hawaii Five-0 (CBS) 10:00 PM ET
Last season, Hawaii Five-0 came to the season finale, realized it had a storyline that had nowhere to go and made it part of the cliffhanger. With this season’s finale including Treat Williams, Christine Lahti, Anthony Ian Dale and Daniel Henney, will the show similarly put some its withering storylines in jeopardy.

Warehouse 13, "The Big Snag"

Warehouse 13 (Syfy) 10:00PMM ET
Do not adjust your television, tonight’s episode will appear to be in black and white. Pete and Myka have been pulled into the 1940 by an artifact. There, they have to try to solve a murder amid gangsters, molls and former Galaxy Quest crew members. Yep, its a noir homage and a reunion of Missi Pyle and Enrico Colantoni.

Revolution (NBC) 10:00 PM ET
Miles, Nora, Charlie and Jason all hide out from a drone strike together.

Revolution, "The Longest Day"

Newlyweds: The First Year (Bravo) 10:00 PM ET
The rest of the couples may be wondering if, as the saying goes, the honeymoon is over but Blair is busy planning a commitment ceremony to hold in Savannah.

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (NBC) 12:35 AM ET
Following their Saturday Night Live performance, Vampire Weekend is Jimmy‘s musical guest tonight.
