SupermanHenry Cavill will return in the Man of Steel sequel, but he’s bringing a friend – Batman! Yes, they’re ready to reboot the bat, and bring him face to face with Superman. There wasn’t the expected announcement (only rumor) that it would be followed by a Flash movie, then Justice League, but it does appear to be moving in that direction.

The House failed to include the Student Non Discrimination Act in their version of the Education bill, voting it down in committee 5-7. SNDA is modeled on Title IX and would effectively bar discrimination in schools. The Senate version currently under consideration includes SNDA.

Fresh on the news that there would be a Family Guy/The Simpsons crossover in fall 2014 come the news that Futurama will somehow also join The Simpsons as the season finale for the 2014 season.Harry Styles

The Westboro Baptist Church showed more guts than I expected in picketing the One Direction concert, but one bright side was that Harry Styles took a moment to tweet about the protest. “Despite the company outside, I believe in equal rights for everyone. I think God loves all. Thanks for coming to the show though.” I really think that teen idols like One Direction and Justin Beiber could do wonders for gay teens if they followed Miley Cyrus and spoke out forcefully on the subject to their fans, and this is a start.

The federal judge assigned to the marriage equality case in Arkansas has recused himself from the case, citing current and past associations, which some have traced back to an anti-gay group. I’m kind of impressed by the integrity.Cory Monteith

Ryan Murphy has opened up about Glee and the death of Cory Monteith, and I’d never be able to do all he said justice here so you should read the whole thing. But the gist is that Glee will push their premiere one week, do a two part Beatles tribute that’s already written, then a tribute episode to deal with the death of Finn Hudson before going on an unspecified hiatus. Lea Michele has been the one making the calls on how they should progress, and she wants the Glee family back together on set, where grief counselors will be available. It’s really a great interview from Murphy about the whole thing, including how he, Lea and Brad piled Cory into a car to take him straight to rehab they had set up this spring.

Helen Thomas, pioneering journalist who worked the White House press room for ten presidents has passed away at the age of Seth Green Husbands the Series92.

The Conjuring is set to win the weekend box office, finally dethroning Despicable Me 2 with a $40 million haul. The Minions will hold second place with $24 million. Turbo and Red 2 are fighting for fourth with $19 million.

MTV Geek has the exclusive photos from the third season of Husbands, where we get to meet the family. And the exes. We also have images in the gallery from the Husbands party, and the trailer is on the next page.

Dan Savage went on Real Time with Bill Maher, sat right next to Grover Norquist, and when the idea that he shouldn’t Dan Savagebe a parent because he can’t have biological children came up said “I’m always telling people who say two men can’t make a baby, anything is possible for God. I’m going to keep inseminating my husband and keep my fingers crossed.” You really need to watch the look on Norquist’s face.

While Andrew Garfield made headlines suggesting Spider-man could be gay or bisexual, he followed up at Comic Con to a fan asking him if it was hard for someone famous to risk making big social statements by saying  “First and foremost, I’m an actor and I only want to be an actor right now. But Spider-Man stands for everybody — black, white, Asian, gay, straight. To me it’s not a social issue. Love between two consenting adults its love. Why anyone would bat an eyelash at what I said is beyond Andrew Garfieldme. The thing is, (Spider-Man) is under a mask, he could be anyone under that. To gay, straight, black, white or anyone, he’s just a hero. He stands for the underdog, and he stands for what needs protecting.” He did follow up by admitting that it simply wouldn’t make sense for the current movies if he was suddenly black.

Ending what has to be one of the more petty fights in Hollywood in years, the MPAA has ruled that The Butler can’t be called The Butler, but can be called Lee Daniels’ The Butler, as long as “Lee Daniels’” is at least 75% the size of “The Butler” in the materials.

The New York State Comptroller has written a letter to President Obama requesting that he order that “place of celebration” be used as the standard for determining if a same-sex couple is married in order to simplify recognition. It’s the right thing to do, but I have a feeling that it can be done for every law.Alan Turing

Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon says that the current leadership in the UK has “great sympathy” for the bill that would posthumously pardon Alan Turing.

The San Diego County Clerk has filed suit demanding that the California Supreme Court not require him to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples, saying the Prop 8 ruling should only apply to the two couples party to the suit. He appears to have acted independently of the rest of the San Diego county government, who were blindsided. He also claims 19 other County Clerks will join the suit Monday, which has no chance of succeeding.

Nate Silver and the 538 blog are leaving the New York Times for ESPN, where he will be a contributor to Keith Olbermann’s new show, among other things. Silver got his start with baseball statistics, so it’s not out of the Ryan Steeleblue, but it does leave open what his role in the next presidential election will be.

The Magic Mike musical is moving forward with some big talent. Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey of Next To Normal are writing the songs, while Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will write the book. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is the one who came in and saved Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark and also wrote the book for the upcoming American Psycho musical. While all of this is a good sign, we have to admit that casting is the key to this working. Amusingly, Andrew Keenan-Bolger tweeted he thought Ryan Steele should star in it, which I would be fine with.
