Joel Osteen has a gay problem, Dallas Buyers Club starts strong, why is Sia singing with Eminem?
Cher says that she’s really nervous about being a guest judge on Dancing With the Stars, but she has Chaz coming over to give her tips. “I have no idea what I’m doing. I don’t know how you judge it. … I was there when Chaz was doing it and saw how difficult it was. I just don’t want to miss some fabulous thing that someone is doing … that would be a big deal, and I wouldn’t even know it. I just don’t want to be responsible for someone getting a different mark than a professional would give them.”
Rapper Rugged Man, who I’ve never heard of, thinks Macklemore is just using the gays for marketing. “Macklemore, he can be sincere (in his song ‘Same Love’) with what he’s saying about…’Oh, if I was gay, I would think Hip Hop hates me,’ but what’s really going on is that they’re using that popular, political agenda to move their careers forward.” He even dissed Frank Ocean for coming out about loving a man because he did it right before his album release. And you know who is really to blame? The gays in the record industry. “If Frank Ocean wanted to come out two years before his album dropped, eight months after his album dropped….the timing was strategically placed…because a big percentage of the entertainment industry and media is run by [the] homosexual community. Which I’m not saying there’s nothing wrong with that, but these people, they’re smart.”
Joel Osteen has a gay problem.
A mother in Craigsville, Virginia is defending a decision to let her son wear a KKK outfit for Halloween. “It’s suppose to be white with white. Black with black. Man with woman and all of that. That’s what the KKK stands for. The KKK every year, raises money to donate to the St. Jude’s.”
Billionaires like Paul Singer are working to blur the lines between conservatives and liberals when it comes to gay rights. Singer, who has already given millions to marriage equality causes is launching a new initiative to fight marginalization of GLBT people globally, to be managed by the Human Rights Campaign, funded generously by himself and fellow billionaire Daniel Loeb. “Unless America engages in a terrible, terrible retreat from freedom, towards fascism, communism, whatever — some totalitarian harsh state — this seems inexorable. Social conservatives have and should have a place in the inner circle of what it means to be a Republican. There needs to be room for conservatives who have different views on some of the social issues.”
Dallas Buyers Club started strong in the specialty box office, pulling in an impressive $29k per screen average in limited release, building from Friday to Saturday.
Given the homophobic lyrics on Eminem’s new album, why is Sia, an in demand songwriter and singer, and an openly queer woman, singing with him? Even she’s uncomfortable with it, but has her reasons. “I truly understand your point, and am certainly experiencing fear around the repercussions if he doesn’t explain his art. I am queer, and love my queers, young and old. I work with the Center and homeless LGBT kids, and when I heard ‘Rap God’ I was very anxious. He has a character called Slim Shady who represents the worst and darkest bile of America. I see how it can be unclear.” On a side note, I watched Eminem perform on SNL this weekend, and to be honest, he is an extraordinary talent. Honestly breathtaking. But why he has to use that talent to spread hate, I have no idea.
More states, including my own West Virginia, plan to continue denying military IDs to same-sex spouses in the national guard, directing them to federal facilities. “Texas Military Forces is a state agency, and as such is obligated to adhere to the Texas Constitution and the laws of this state which clearly define marriage as between one man and one woman.” Meanwhile in Mississippi, it’s not that they don’t want to, but their hands are tied! “The Mississippi Constitution clearly defines marriage as a union between one man and one woman and expressly prohibits the recognition of same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions.” The same is true of Georgia. “The State of Georgia does not recognize same sex marriages and is not authorizing the Georgia National Guard to process the applications for same-sex married benefits at state facilities. Any personnel seeking to apply for same-sex married benefits will be referred to federal facilities.” Maybe it’s time to permanently activate the units in the resisting states.
