Conner Habib reviews Unstoppable, Cher doesn’t hate Madonna, Jason Collins throws out first pitch for Dodgers

Kirk CameronOur NewNowNext SexPert Conner Habib is writing for Vice now, and in his first column he reviews the Kirk Cameron movie Unstoppable, where Kirk whines about how Hollywood is trying to silence Christians. It’s a funny read, and Conner stresses he has no problem with faith, just how faith is presented here, which he sums up as “Unstoppable is the full frontal display of an egomaniac who has somehow found his way into a position of power.”

Guido Barilla is apologizing again for the comments he made about gay families. I know he’s mostly just in damage control, as his rivals have taken the opportunity to shout their support for gay families and the world is calling for a boycott, but he’s taking the standard steps that GLAAD proscribes for foot in mouth syndrome. “It is clear that I have a lot to learn about the lively debate concerning the evolution of the family.”

Lyndsy Fonseca and David Henrie reminisce about playing the long suffering kids on How I Met Your Mother, how many nondisclosure agreements they signed, and how they shot all the footage early on because Henrie was undergoing a rather spectacular puberty. We signed a David Henrieconfidentiality agreement saying that we would not say who the mother is. They also didn’t know how many years the show was going to go. They filmed the ending of the show then just to have it.” Henrie says that people try and get him drunk at bars to reveal the secret.

Jason Collins threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the first ever Los Angeles Dodgers Night Out at the Park, while Amber Riley sang the national anthem with the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles. I love Amber, but couldn’t they have found a GLBT singer for the anthem?

Elsewhere in sports, Naya Rivera was on hand in Oakland for her brother Mychal’s game with the Raiders. She was also caught by the cameras yelling “F*ck Yeah!” when he scored his first NFL touchdown. I wonder how much Fox is going to get fined for that one?

John Greyson and Tarek Loubani, who have been held in an Egyptian jail for six weeks smuggled a note out of prison detailing the horrible treatment they’ve received since their arrest. “That’s when we were: arrested, searched, caged, questioned, interrogated, videotaped with a ‘Syrian terrorist’, slapped, beaten, ridiculed, hot-boxed, refused phone calls, stripped, shaved bald, accused of being foreign mercenaries.”Cher

During Cher’s reddit AMA (which you should read because it’s awesome), she shared more details on her views about Madonna. “Madge, no. Actually I don’t. I never hated her, I just thought she was a bitch. Actually I quite respect her. Actually I think Madge might be one of the most amazing artists I’ve known. I don’t like everything she does, for sure, but she is always riding the crest of the wave. She always saw trends WAY before anyone else, and had great videos. So, besides saying “WTF is MDNA”, I’m fine with it.”

The first same-sex couples in Colombia have received marriage licenses. The path to equality in Colombia has been complicated, with the high court ordering the legislature to recognize the unions, but stopping short of marriage. When the legislature refused to act, more guidance was provided, leading to the licenses this week.

Senator John BarrassoI’m not a big fan of outing, unless you’re an anti-gay bigot working against my rights. Mike Rodgers, who honestly is one of the more cheerful activists out there (I always have fun hanging out with him), has a 100% record of being right when he outs someone. He’s now declared Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming is gay, and that he was given the chance to come out on his own but didn’t. Barasso has a fairly pure anti-gay, anti-woman voting record.

The Westboro Baptist Church is headed to D.C. this week to picket the United States Senate for confirming Todd Hughes to the U.S. Appellate Court. I’d recommend you read their flyer as to their reasoning, because you need to remember just how vile these people are, but you probably shouldn’t do it on a full stomach.

The Olympic Torch has been lit in Greece and will travel across Russia before arriving in Sochi. International Olympic Commission President Thomas Bach said “The flame lit today by the Greek sun takes on this responsibility for a peaceful celebration here and now; the torches will carry Lance Bass Michael Turchinit into the Olympic future. Thus the Olympic Torch Relay will be a messenger for the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect without any form of discrimination.” We shall see.

Lance Bass says he hasn’t begun planning his wedding to Michael Turchin yet, but he’s sure he’ll come up with something. “I think people expect something big from us and I’m sure they’re going to get something big because, you know, we are a gay couple that likes to do things a little over the top…I love to throw a party and I love weddings, so I think it’s going to be something special for sure.”

Tilda Swinton, who posed in front of St. Basil’s Cathedral with a rainbow flag, has donated £1000 to cover the costs of the funeral for activist Tilda SwintonAlexey Davydov. Davydov died after a long illness that stemmed from an infection he received after being arrested by the Russian authorites.

I’d like to add a personal “F*ck you!” to Peter Labarbera, who tweeted out hate in response to my friend Jeremy Hooper’s becoming a father with his husband.

Congratulations to Heather Morris and her longtime beau Taylor Hubbell, who welcomed their son Elijah to the world on Saturday.
