Morning Meme: Larry Kramer Blasts Barbra Streisand, Chris Evans Likes It Doggie Style, and Dora the Explorer Gets Real

Among the things I never thought I’d be writing about The Amazing Spider-man, Andrew GarfieldAndrew Garfield says that he was inspired by Spider-man XXX: A Porn Parody. “I watched it a few times.  I watched it more from an inspirational stand point than from a sexual standpoint. I think you can find inspiration from anywhere when it comes to this character because it’s everyone’s; it belongs to everyone…”

Entertainment Weekly has some great photographs from the new season of Husbands the Series. I spoke to Jane Espenson and Cheeks last night about the new season, and will have that interview for you next week, but I can tell you that you’re going to love it.

I’m sure that The VICE Guide To Being Gay is going to offend some people – it trades on some stereotypes, but the A-to-Z guide is pretty funny, and it has more than a few truths in it. It’s a bit NSFW, and give it a chance beyond “A” because that’s as raunchy as it gets.

A new study shows that gay male parents live much the same lives as opposite sex parents, including being too tired for sex. Being parents also decreases risky behavior and makes us all better people on many fronts.

Chris EvansMeanwhile, Jerry Mahoney, who wrote a Real Voices column for us, is my kind of dad, because he’s not getting a cat.

Chris Evans tells Women’s Health that he loves women with a softer side, he loves to dance, especially tap, and if you want to love him, you have to love dogs. I love dogs. Just sayin’.

With all the talk of the individual mandate surviving SCOTUS yesterday, our friends over at Buzzfeed compiled a list of other Man-dates you might like. Trust me, these will be more popular than Obamacare is to Rush Limbaugh.

In food news, NOM protesters at General Mills are saying they were bullied by management and security outside the headquarters. What did management do when 7 people showed up on their sidewalk that was so horrible? Brought them coffee and ice water with lemon.  “‘There would have been cookies too, except the protesters said they’d accept them only to add to the smattering of “dumped” food they had collected. It’s the neighborly thing to do,’ Tom Forsythe, spokesman for General Mills, explained the unexpected hospitality. ‘I was raised as a Minnesotan, and when people drop by your house, you put on coffee, so that’s what we did.’” Brutal.

Kraft also spoke out about the rainbow Oreo that took Facebook by storm.Oreo “We are excited to illustrate what is making history today in a fun and playful way. Kraft Foods has a proud history of celebrating diversity and inclusiveness. We feel the OREO ad is a fun reflection of our values. There has been a lot of buzz about the image, and it shows how relevant OREO is to people even after 100 years.”

Would the U.S. really drop their shadow war in Uganda because the country is anti-gay? It seems a possibility.

House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith (D-WA) has introduced the Military Spouses Equal Treatment Act, which would update the definition of “spouse” in military regulations to provide equal benefits for same-sex spouses.

Larry KramerIt appears that Ryan Reynolds has officially signed on to the new Highlander franchise. I have to wonder if this is really necessary.

Larry Kramer has some choice words for Barbra Streisand concerning The Normal Heart, which she held the rights to for many years, but never produced after she said she was sad she wasn’t directing the movie:

Ryan has wonderful ideas that jell and enhance my work. You said you couldn’t get financing. He has his financing. He said if he couldn’t get it, he’d finance it himself. (You chose to remodel and redecorate your houses.) This is a man whose driving passion to make this movie is extraordinary. When many years ago, [agent] Johnnie Planco took me to lunch to tell me you wanted to buy my play, I jumped up and down in the restaurant and yelled out loud in my happiness . . . Barbra Streisand wanted to film my play, and that meant people all over the world would get my message. I guess it wasn’t meant to be. You had other movies and tours to make first. I sat back with increasing sadness as I watched you (often at the last minute) choose something else to do . . . This is not a person with quite the same burning passion to make it as you always claim . . . I will always regret not having the experience of working with you on something, but I feel totally blessed that Ryan Murphy has come into my life to take your place.”
