Morning Meme: Lesbians Are P!nk’s Rootstalk, Liam Neeson’s Legendary Endowment, and Does Nicki Minaj Have a Gun?

Meryl Streep has donated $1 million to New York Public Theater in honor of founder Joe Papp Meryl Streepand her friend and frequent collaborator Nora Ephron.

True Blood has sent out a casting notice for Ben, “an ‘ultra charming, ultra handsome’ fella in his late 20s/early 30s who is magnetic to women and menfolk alike, all while using his Southern gentility to mask a dark, dark, darrrrrk side.”

My friend Jody has launched an Indiegogo campaign for Bent-Con, the December gathering or queer, nerdy creators taking place in Burbank that will host the likes of Jane Espenson and more. Since they’re a non-profit, all donations to make this their biggest event yet will be tax deductible.

Hungry Hungry Hippos will be turned into an animated children’s movie, but like the folks at Vulture, I’d prefer to see a horror film.

Tegan and SaraTegan and Sara are going to be rocking the Yuletide on 90210. If I’ve been really good, will they make sure Santa puts Teddy under my tree?

While a bit graphic and NSFW, I admit that I was fascinated by the Vice piece about straight couples adding a little backdoor action for the man to spice up their sex lives, up to and including adding a second male to the equation.

Was the lost city of Atlantis really the Greek city of Helike? Helike was built on a liquefaction zone, and following an earthquake, the ground literally swallowed the city, sinking it.

The quotes from the Hulk Hogan sex tape really prove that romance is dead.

Paramount has teamed with Sacha Baron Cohen to write The Lesbian, to be based on the story of the Hong Kong billionaire offering $65 million to the man who would wed his (happily partnered) lesbian daughter. By going with Cohen, you can be sure the story will be treated with the dignity and respect such a deeply personal situation deserves.Sacha Baron Cohen

17-year-old Ryan Andresen recently completed all the requirements to become an Eagle Scout after a career with the Scouts that began when he was six. But his Scout Leader refused to bestow his medal because Andresen recently came out as gay. The Boy Scouts of America said because he was gay, he did not agree to the Scouts “Duty to God” and “He is no longer eligible for membership in scouting.” I think there are a lot of Christians who would argue being gay has nothing to do with their “Duty to God” and a lot of gays who would argue that the Scouts have no idea what “Duty to God” means.

h/t to Alex for this New York Times piece on being gay in the rural south (something I know a thing or two about, especially being as visibly out as I happen to be). “And there is a limit to the acceptance. In the rural South, people love their sons and daughters and they may even break bread with the florist and his partner, but they still believe homosexuality is a sin. They draw the line at a gay pride march down Main Street, and they won’t stand for gay marriage.”

Doctor Who’s Alex Kingston is set to guest on NCIS as a woman with deep connections, be it for gems or guns that Gibbs needs for a case. Who wants to see River Song go up against Abby?

There’s a planned Million Muppet March in Washington, D.C. on November 3 to protest Mitt Romney’s plans to defund PBS, and by extension Sesame Street.

My friend David Mixner reminds us that there is a great deal at stake in this election, and a real possibility of winning marriage on the ballots in multiple states, and yet losing the White House. We can’t sit back and hope President Obama wins.  “No matter how we would want the world to be this morning, it makes no difference. Our lives, our future and our freedom are at stake in this election. Don’t play with it. Don’t be high and Pinkmighty about it. Don’t blame someone else about it. As a dear friend always reminds me, “It is what it is”. Just do what the courageous and noble LGBT community have always done in the times of adversity. Fight back. Fight hard. Ignore the odds. Show others how it is done. Most importantly take this nation to a new place in its politics, hearts and values.”

P!nk (her new album is amazing, I’ve had it on repeat for a week) talks to The Advocate about her affinity for the gay community. “They’ve been the most loyal part of what I do. They’ve been my most loyal friends, to be honest. I’ve had a lot of my gay boys around, but my gay girls are my rootstalk. They’re my honesty in an ocean of bullsh*t. I should be gay by the way that I look and the way that I am. I just happen to not be. But it just makes perfect and complete sense.”
