After two weeks of voting and tens of thousands of votes cast, our readers have selected the events, people and entertainment they think either best represented gay and bisexual men in 2010 popular culture, or were the favorites of gay and bisexual men. (Voting was also open to other readers who are simply fans of gay men and gay entertainment.) Polling included categories such as Favorite Male TV Star, Biggest Gay Ally and Best Coming Out Story, and we also threw in a few special “infamy” categories: Worst Film, Biggest Homophobe and Worst Gay Moment.
Now in previous years, the AfterElton staff selected the annual Visibility Award winners. But this year we left it to you our readers first to suggest the top five nominees in each category and then to select the winners via popular vote.
We were surprised at how much our readers’ favorites diverged from our own in some instances. In case you’re curious who the writers and editors would have chosen, the consensus staff pick is noted for each category. Frankly, some of the winners (Favorite Movie, Worst, Favorite TV Couple) had us scratching our heads. What were you people thinking?
Just kidding. The voting was fair, all awards deserved, and this just tells us that AfterElton really is a site where all kinds of views and opinions are welcome.
And now without further ado, The 2010 AfterElton.com Visibility Award Winners as chosen by our readers (and AE staff picks!)
When you’re done checking out our winners, be sure to see which lesbians and bisexual women were named the best by the readers of AfterEllen.com!
