Plus a Spanish-language Breaking Bad and does Fox’s Gavin & Stacy remake work

News

Fox unveiled its fall schedule which doesn’t include any of the big moves that people speculated would happen. Glee will air on Thursday (but will apparently take a hiatus) to make room for the Greg Kinnear series Rake. American Idol and The X-Factor aren’t cutting back. Tuesday nights continue to be comedy night. The one major change is a plan to move Bones and Raising Hope to Friday.

Fox also announced it is returning to the mini-series genre, reviving 24 as a 12-hour story and ordering Wayward Pines, a Twin Peaks-inspired thriller from The Playboy Club creator Chad Hodge. it’s also developing a mini-series about Billy the Kid.

Meanwhile, Fox also released trailers for its new shows. I have a feeling you’ll be most interested in Us & Them, the Americanization of Gavin & Stacey. Unsurprisingly, it looks like James Corden and Ruth Jones were the hardest shoes to fill. Other than that, I think it looks promising and not just based on Jason Ritter being adorable:

I try not to think about Ritter’s current role as Gavin and his Parenthood role at the same time.

This year Fox has the Super Bowl and it is giving the high-profile time slot following the game to New Girl and a new comedy yet to be determined.

ABC is unveiling an iOS app that will allow people to watch their local ABC affiliate on their iPhone or iPad — if you already subscribe to a cable package. That’s not the only part to penalize people from dropping their cable package for streaming services, the network is planning on delaying when it makes new shows available to watch online. I think that might work if your schedule consisted of standalone procedurals, but they do realize that part of the rationale for putting shows online is to make it easy to keep up with a serialized show? Otherwise, missing an episode becomes a good way to drop a show.

Now it’s official, Univision will be airing a Spanish-language remake of Breaking Bad called Metastasis. Diego Trujillo, who was in the Spanish-language remake of Desperate Housewives will play Walter Blanco while Heroes alum Roberto Urbina will step into the Jesse role (renamed Jose Miguel Rosas. Unfortunately, Urbina has not had a big enough role for shirtless screencaps to be passed around, but I hope that won’t last for long.

The second season finale of Continuum will be influenced by fans who can pick a side, between the corporations and Liber8, posting comments about their pick on social networks like Twitter and Vine. Do we really have to choose? They’re both forces of awful.

It’s a Scandal-palooza with Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, Guillermo Diaz, Katie Lowes, Joshua Malina, Jeff Perry, Columbus Short, Darby Stanchfield and Bellamy Young visiting. Judy Smith, the inspiration for Olivia Pope co-hosts. I usually find Smith as boring as her ideal client (meaning someone trained to say nothing but prepared talking points), so I’m not particularly excited in that part. I’ll still watch fascinated.

The Cast of Scandal

So You Think You Can Dance (Fox) 8:00 PM ET
It may not be the event it once was, but summer isn’t here until the So You Think You Can Dance auditions have begun.

New Girl (Fox) 9:00 PM ET
For the season finale, it’s time for Cece‘s wedding day. How do you make such a happy occasion awkward if you’re the bride’s best friend? A good start would be hooking up with your “room friend” again, even though you’ve failed to define the relationship. If that’s not enough, you can also have your other two roommates trying to sabotage the event. Tonight’s finale also has an appearance by Taylor Swift.

New Girl, "Elaine's Big Da"

The Mindy Project (Fox) 9:30 PM ET
It’s Mindy‘s finale, too and she’s getting ready to spend her summer hiatus in Haiti on a mission with Casey. Before they go, the office is throwing a goodbye party.

Chopped (Food Network) 10:00 PM ET
Four amateur chefs take on the mystery baskets which will challenge them by offering an “unfamiliar tuber” in the entree  round. (I vote lotus root!) Then, to make up for it, the dessert calls for crackers and red wine.

Awkward. (MTV) 10:00 PM ET
It’s Halloween in Palos Verdes where the scares include Jenna realizing she’s moved on from Matty to Colin, Jake realizing he’s becoming Jenna’s confidant while Sadie runs into a mean girl looking to bring a head cheerleader down.

Grimm (NBC) 10:00 PM ET
For Grimm‘s penultimate episode, there’s a lot going on: the Royal family coming to Portland, the discovery of zombie-like creatures, and Juliette getting another explanation about Nick’s life as a Grimm. (Did we really take two seasons for all the major characters to become aware of the series’ premise? Wu‘s still in the dark, I guess next season will be the season of Wu? I hope so.)

Grimm, "The Walking Dead"

Conan (TBS) 11:00 PM ET
Justin Bartha‘s probably visiting to talk up The Hangover III but hopefully he’ll talk a little about leaving The New Normal behind.

Chelsea Lately (E!) 11:00 PM ET
Ross Mathews is on tonight’s panel with Peter Facinelli as interview guest.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central) 11:00 PM ET
Nathan Lane‘s discussing his new play with Jon Stewart.

The Late Show with David Letterman (CBS) 11:35 PM ET
Tonight’s show includes a performance from the revival of Pippin. For the sake of Broadway history, I hope it’s introduced as a “free three minutes of Pippin“.

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (NBC) 11:35 PM ET
Wanda Sykes‘s returning for another chat with Jay and to make things even more faboo Martha Stewart‘s here. I’m sure her adventures looking for love online will be a part of the conversation.

What will you be watching tonight? Please share in the comments!
