TV on Tap: “America’s Got Talent” Adds a Spice Girl, Twitter Turned “Scandal” into a Hit, and Will Online Shows Break Through at the Emmys?

Suits wraps up its second season by putting on a tuxedo.

News

Will Arnett has joined a comedy pilot from Raising Hope creator Greg Garcia, a move that makes Up All Night look even more doomed. The show focuses on a recent divorcee who realizes his own parents’ marriage is pretty troubled.

America’s Got Talent has found someone who can fill Sharon Osbourne‘s seat, adding Mel B (also known as Scary Spice) to the judges’ table. AGT is not the former Spice Girl‘s first talent show job. She was a judge on the Australian X-Factor. EW also reports that NBC’s summer staple might add a fourth judge to the table.

Mark Blucas has joined the cast of the drama pilot Killer Women as a DEA agent who solves crimes with Tricia Helfer‘s Texas Ranger. Wonder what this could mean for his Necessary Roughness gig?

What will the next season of Downton Abbey be like now that the third season has brought about so much upheaval? In talking with EW, creator Julian Fellowes says we’ll see more of wayward cousin Rose while Mary will be recovering from… the unfortunate way Christmas ended.

I haven’t watched the Fast and Furious movies so’m not very familiar with Sung Kang (though I did see Better Luck Tomorrow and promptly forgot about it the next day). But a few publicity pictures have me interested in Gang Related, the Fox pilot he just joined. Kang will play an FBI agent who specializes in Asian gang activity. He butts heads with a former gang member who joins the police (played by Ramon Rodriguez… you know, the hunky Bosley from last year’s Charlie’s Angels remake).

The CW’s Tomorrow People reboot has added Neighbours alum Luke Mitchell to its cast.`Are there any Neighbours viewers out there who can tell me if I should be excited ?

Scandal is the rare show to go from surprise renewal to breakout second-season hit, a transformation that the cast and producers credit to a robust Twitter community boosted by the entire cast live-tweeting episodes — which sometimes included getting guest-stars to sign up for the microblogging site, like when Scott Foley learned what a trending topic is after he became a trending topic.

Steve Zahn will star in Influence, the drama pilot from Awake creator Kyle Killen.

This could be the year that streaming series get nominated for some Emmys. Netflix’s House of Cards and Arrested Development could end up competing against full length TV series. However, there’s also categories for “Short Format” Programs. I hope Husbands can afford some “For Your Consideration” ads.

Anderson Live (syndicated) Check local listings
For today’s show, Anderson is joined by co-host Patti Stanger, Bizarre FoodsAndrew Zimmern (you know, that show where he eats a lot of… er, high protein pickles) and a mystery guest. I don’t think the identity of a mystery guest is enough to convince me to watch Patti Stanger weighing in on current events.

The New Ricki Lake Show (syndicated) Check local listings
Ricki‘s talking about gay parenting today. That includes discussions with gay parents Rosie O’Donnell and Dan Bucatinsky as well as comedian Anthony Spock whose mother came out when he was 22.

The View (ABC) Check local listings
Mario Cantone‘s visiting to list off his Oscar picks today. If he doesn’t predict a sweep for The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure, I will be so disappointed.

Days of Our Lives (NBC) Check local listings
It’s a busy day at Salem hospital with both Gabi and Eric needing medical attention. Sami is probably going to be really upset if people take too long to ask her how she’s handling her brother and her granddaughter being at risk.

The Vampire Diaries (CW) 8:00 PM ET
It sounds like one too many road trips island quests with the Salvatores has broken Elena‘s brain, prompting Stefan to turn to Dr. Fell for help. Don’t worry, Elena’s well enough to come up with a plan of her own and to fight with Damon and Stefan on how things to proceed. Some things never change in Mystic Falls.

The Big Bang Theory (CBS) 8:00 PM ET
Raj decides to take up agoraphobia after a bad date. I believe that means that Raj is cooped up in his apartment with Stuart. There better not be anyone that tries to make Raj feel better about himself and secure enough to leave the apartment (and thus spend time away from Stuart) again.

Community (NBC) 8:00 PM ET
Last week, The Big Bang Theory gave the Raj/Stuart shippers reason to feel disappointment, now Community is throwing a wrench into Troy and Abed‘s relationship thanks to Abed’s e-mail pen pal (Matt Lucas) who adds awkwardness to the gang’s trip to an Inspector Spacetime fan convention.

Glory Hounds (Animal Planet) 8:00 PM ET
I’m feeling mixed about Animal Planet’s new special that follows the service dogs who work alongside U.S. troops in Afghanistan. It’s certainly a worthwhile topic, but I’m hoping this special doesn’t ignore that some of these dogs need additional care after their service is done because, overall, we seem to forget that kind of thing too often.

Parks & Recreation (NBC) 8:30 PM ET
Ben loses a little bit of his soul as he starts his first day at the Sweetums Charity Foundation. If Parks lasts long enough, this will eventually be part of an attack ad against Leslie.

Project Runway (Lifetime) 9:00 PM ET
The teams have to create two award show outfits for Miranda Lambert, one to wear on the red carpet and one for performing. Let’s see if this is one of those client challenges where someone loses for not accommodating the functional demands of the outfit.

Anger Management (FX) 9:30 MP ET
Charlie finds a way to mix inappropriate dating choices with poor parenting by dating his daughter’s teacher. Oh that Charlie, isn’t he just a lovable scamp? Or an awful person. Our media seems to mix the two up a lot.

Elementary (CBS) 10:00 PM ET
There’s a billionaire who is making all kinds of moves to get Sherlock to take his case, but Sherlock’s more interested in creating exercises to develop Joan‘s deductive skills. Maybe this billionaire could position his case as a challenge for Joan.

Suits (USA) 10:00 PM ET
The firm’s future is in question thanks to the need for a cliffhanger the offer from Dana‘s firm. Jessica and Harvey can’t agree on what to do, but apparently the British firm has a Louis of its own. I’d hope that would settle things, isn’t one Louis per office enough?

Scandal (ABC) 10:00 PM ET
Okay, so I’m still annoyed that there haven’t been enough consequences for the election rigging, but Fritz has taken to drinking in the shower? Oh, Scandal you’ve tempered that annoyance a little. Tonight’s episode should help a little more with guest appearances by two AE-fave hunks Eric Mabius and Sam Page. Somehow, it involves “the first gay governor of North Carolina” (what, is this episode set in 2050?) and Olivia‘s team finding themselves working as matchmakers.

Archer (FX) 10:00 PM ET
Sterling gets bitten by a snake in a “special place”. I’m guessing that special place is a romantic restaurant where Sterling hoped to have a memorable date with Katya. What, are you thinking of a different “special place?”

What will you be watching tonight? Please share in the comments!
