TV on Tap: “Chicago Fire” Fools the Local News, “The Killing” Lives Again and Seth MacFarlane Gets Adulterous with Marge Simpson

Aw, now I wish I could spend my next landmark anniversary with Cyndi Lauper.
(Also, happy milestone
Bones!)

News

NBC hasn’t given up on Nick Lachey. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Lachey will be hosting the singing competition series, The Winner Is, where performers will get the chance to take a cash payout before they find out if the judges are going to send them to the next round. Lachey previously hosted The Sing-Off and was one of the mentors on Clash of the Choirs.

It seems pretty likely The Killing will rise from the dead, Variety reports that the series writers have assembled to start working on a third season.

Chicago TV station WGN reported on a plane crash, not realizing it was a staged crash for an episode of Chicago Fire. The scene had signage indicating that it was a filming location, but the WGN news reported on what their traffic helicopter saw.

Canada is finally getting its own version of The Amazing Race.

Do you have an idea for how Psych should be advertised? USA has created a contest where viewers submit their idea for a Psych tagline and vote on the most popular submissions.

Nate Corddry will appear on New Girl, according to E!. He’ll play a classmate of Jess who creeps her out, which will probably make me flash back to his creepy United States of Tara restaurant manager.

As part of its upcoming revamp, Army Wives is adding to its cast with singer/actress Ashanti, Torrey DeVitto and Elle McLemore.

Seth MacFarlane will be adding his voice to The Simpsons according to EW. He’ll play a man Marge encounters when she visits the adulterous dating site Ashley Madison and mistakes it for the site of baked treat maker Dolly Madison. There’s a zinger zapper joke in there somewhere.

How is Community handling the departure of Chevy Chase? TVLine says that Pierce appears in the season finale, which was filmed out of sequence but producers might find a way to use already-filmed footage of Chase in the two episodes filmed after he quit. That inspired a big sigh of relief from… absolutely nobody.

ABC Family is developing a series based on the I Hunt Killers novels. The novels follow the daughter of a serial killer who is under investigation once a bunch of copycat murders are committed. The channel has another thriller in development, Socio, about a teen suspected of murder. Is this focus on underage murder the new trend at the channel or a shorthand way to get network execs to think “This is the next Pretty Little Liars“?

The Nick at Nite comedy Instant Mom has recast one of its lead roles with Michael Boatman, according to Deadline. Based off lingering goodwill from Boatman’s Spin City days, I feel like I have to check out Instant Mom now.
