TV on Tap: “Glee” Celebrates Life Day with a Wookie, Syfy Expects a “Jersey Shore Shark Attack” Next Year and Misha Collins Plans a “Supernatural” Return

Syfy offers holiday editions of Eureka, Warehouse 13 and Haven tonight.

News

I wondered how Glee could possibly top last year’s Christmas episode, which turned out to be take-off on How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Well, it turns out that the series will take on the Judy Garland Christmas special and the most amazingly, horrible, terrible no-good Christmas Life Day Holiday special. That means we’ll get to see Chewbacca on Glee, though I’d rather see the return of Malla and Lumpy.

Today, Xbox Live users will get an update that will reveal Microsoft’s newest attempt to make the gaming console an even more complete source of entertainment, giving them access to programming from ESPN, MSNBC Today and EPIX with HBO Go, YouTube and more making content available in the future. Unfortunately, if you think this means you can cancel your cable subscription, you’ll still need it to access the cable channel’s content.

This takes a little bit of the sting out of last week’s Supernatural: Misha Collins will be returning for three episodes as Castiel, though we’ll have to wait until the another seven episodes to see Cas again. While Collins wasn’t sharing many details about Cas’ return he did say that Castiel no longer wears “undergarments.”

Sara Rue has a new series in the works, one that she created. In Poseurs, Rue will play a straight woman who pretends to be in a relationship with her female roommate in order to get around a lease that doesn’t allow for roommates.

After being a recurring presence on 30 Rock, Dean Winters is set to appear on another NBC comedy. Winters will play Will Arnett‘s brother.

It turns out Nick Cannon knows the best way to get me to stop watching America’s Got Talent when he says that Donald Trump would make a great replacement for Piers Morgan. I hope Cannon was just saying that to close a deal for him to perform in Trump casinos or something. I hate to think he was saying that sincerely.

David Burtka has signed a deal with E! to be an E! News correspondent and to appear on Live from the Red Carpet. I generally avoid E! News and I’m still debating if Burtka’s adorable enough to get me to reconsider that.

We know Dillon Casey has an amazing body but, so far, he’s covered himself up on Nikita. That’s about to change according to Maggie Q who says an upcoming episode will have Casey tied to a chair in his undies for the entire episode.

Next year, the network will air Jersey Shore Shark Attack, a creature feature that looks like it has plenty of characters inspired by the ubiquitous MTV reality series. I hope this is the beginning of many pop culture parodies, because I can think of a few TV shows ripe to be turned into a creature feature. I mean, imagine what Revenge would be like if the latest complication in Emily‘s plans was sharktopus attacking the Hamptons?

What shows to have the biggest ratings gains and losses this fall? The ten winners were all comedies: all of the returning comedies to air on CBS’ Mondays and Thursdays as well as ABC’s Wednesday line-up. Meanwhile, the losers list includes Chuck, Fringe, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Nikita — four shows that moved to Friday this fall — along with Glee, Desperate Housewives, Community and America’s Next Top Model.

The special gets extra geeky with guest voices from Jim Parsons and Eddie Jimmy Edward James Olmos as well as the return of Chris Parnell and Matt Frewer. If they work a Max Headroom parody into the story, you will hear the squee on the other side of the continent.
