Smash‘s hot lawyer Neal Bledsoe has joined the cast of NBC’s Ironside remake.

Brace yourselves. Jon Stewart will be taking a 12-week hiatus from The Daily Show, Deadline reports. Stewart take the time off to direct his first movie, Rosewater, about a London journalist who is imprisoned while covering the 2009 Iranian presidential election. Don’t worry, The Daily Show will go on, with John Oliver sitting in Jon’s chair. Let’s hope that averts the curse that causes bad things to happen whenever TDS goes on break.

Ben McKenzie has grabbed a pilot role, joining The Advocates. The legal drama follows a lawyer and an ex-con (McKenzie) who try to help underdogs with legal troubles. So what does that mean for Southland? Is his Southland character Rookieboy going to be written out, or is McKenzie feeling pessimistic about Southland‘s future?

The CW has already found a new role for 90210 alum Matt Lanter. He’ll be a part of the District 9-ish pilot Oxygen. The drama follows a future where aliens live among us in a segregated society but where one high school is integrating its students.

They’ve done stop-motion animation and anime episodes, now Community is making an episode with puppet counterparts of the study group.

Beau Bridges has joined the Will Arnett comedy pilot about a man who, following his divorce, starts noticing the problems in his parents’ marriage. Bridges will play Arnett’s dad and husband to Margo Martindale‘s character.

At the New Yorker, Emily Nussbaum thinks she’s identified a new character type. The Hummingbird is an idealistic female character whose single-minded focus and optimism threatens to alienate her from her supporting characters and viewers. Nussbaum names The Middle‘s Sue, Leslie Knope and Enlightened‘s Amy Jelicoe as examples.
