TV on Tap: Kristin Chenoweth Would Return to “The Good Wife,” Seth Green Moves in with Fox’s “Dads” and “Cougar Town” Gets a Fifth Season

Go On books a table for a Friends reunion.

News

In talking with The Hollywood Reporter Kristin Chenoweth discusses the injury she suffered while working on The Good Wife, expressing frustration that the injury stopped her from completing her story arc and saying she’d return to the show if given the chance.

The storytelling on The Walking Dead has more than its share of problems, but the AV Club says the zombie drama succeeds by being one of the few shows that’s a memento mori, a drama that functions as a stark reminder of the inevitability of death.

TVLine reports that Marina Sirtis, the former Councilor Troi, has joined NCIS as the new director of the Mossad (the last one died a few months back).

I was getting a bit worried about the future of Cougar Town since ratings have been good but not spectacular, but TBS has ordered a fifth season of the lush comedy.

Seth Green has joined the upcoming Fox comedy Dads, where he and Tommy Dewey will play two guys whose lives are upended when their fathers move in.

Bryan Cranston was robbed and a script from the final eight Breaking Bad episodes was among the things taken. The script is still out there, which means there are some major spoilers that could end up being revealed.

The intriguing takeaway from The New Republic‘s profile of MSNBC president Phil Griffin is Griffin’s vision for the news network’s future, “he envisions MSNBC, over the next five or ten years, looking much more like a general interest brand than a left-wing clubhouse… and so he’s spending a lot of time figuring out what works for Bravo and USA.” Yeah, generally I retch at the words “lifestyle brand” but when you’re talking about building one around people like Rachel Maddow, Chris Hayes, Melissa Harris-Perry and Steve Kornacki, I have to feel a little intrigued.

I never thought of “ordinary Joe finds his life continues to suck despite meeting an all-powerful sidekick” as a TV trope but io9 offers several examples including Supernatural and Death Note. This changes how I look at Destiel.

EW reports that Clarissa Darling, a character who defined Nickelodeon in its early days, is getting a new life thanks to a novel. The Clarissa Explains It All character will return in Things I Can’t Explain, a novel that follows a 23-year-old Clarissa as she pursues a career in journalism while dealing with the challenges of adulthood. (That premise is reminiscent to the proposed Clarissa spin-off series.) The novel is set to hit store shelves in the fall of 2014.

I’m not a morning show person. The camaraderie always feels really fake and painfully forced to me. However, I did enjoy reading New York magazine’s account of all the backstage drama that happened at The Today Show as Matt Lauer‘s Q ratings shriveled away.

I thought it felt like Anderson checked out a few weeks ago, but today he has co-host Kyra Phillips for an episode about “crazy obsessions,” otherwise known as a mental illness that should be left to TLC to exploit.

Live! with Kelly and Michael (syndicated) Check local listings
Kristin Chenoweth here for a second day of guest-hosting with interviewees Dido and… sigh, Kim Kardashian.

Let’s see… Kate‘s on the warpath and Will‘s getting ready to turn to Stefano for help. It looks like this storyline is finally moving into in overdrive. This demands a liveblog so be sure to join us starting at 1PM Eastern!

Face Off (Syfy) 9:00 PM ET
The opening credits this season have been been teasing us all season with a challenge mixing water, acrobatics and special effects makeup. And for tonight’s finale we see the final three artists head to Vegas to design something for Le Reve.

New Girl (Fox) 9:00 PM ET
Clearly Jess does not have the have time to watch FX or else she’d see that Nick‘s mom (Margo Martindale) resembles some of the scariest characters on the channel. Otherwise she wouldn’t dare interrupt a Miller family funeral in an Elvis costume. Then again, this is Jess, who seems to think you should follow up on every idea, even the terrible ones.

Go On (NBC) 9:00 PM ET
You had to know the phrase “Friends reunion” had to come up at some point in the first season. Courteney Cox is here to fulfill the NBC PR department’s request as a widow struggling to deal with the loss of a spouse, much like Ryan and Anne.

The New Normal (NBC) 9:30 PM ET
It wouldn’t be a Ryan Murphy show without some take on a major cultural debate. So tonight David chaperones an overnight Boy Scout event, which turns into trouble when one of the other troop dads objects to the presence of a gay man like Bryan.

The Mindy Project (Fox) 9:0 PM ET
Ellie Kemper returns this week as Heather asks for Mindy‘s help in getting approved to rent an apartment in Mindy’s building. Deciding to risk becoming one of TV’s most unbearable characters, she agrees to help but secretly undermines her application. Somewhere along the way, Dan Castellaneta also shows up. I’m guessing Condo Board member.

Justified (FX) 10:00 PM ET
Poor Ellen May continues to curse the day her life became interesting. It turns out that she’s at the center of the Drew Thompson case.

What!? Why Men Cheat (Logo) 10:00 PM ET
Logo’s latest doc takes a look at male infidelity and the way some people separate love and sex in their minds. Just reading the description made me tired but maybe this one will manage to avoid the cliches.

Smash (NBC) 10:00 PM ET
We’re a week away from Smash saying goodbye to Tuesday nights/ Tonight Jesse L. Martin and Jamey Sheridan show up to try to make the case for why we should miss it when its gone. Oh, and we hear the wonderful Leslie Odom Jr. has a musical solo.

Watch What Happens Live (Bravo) 11:00 PM ET
Why, is that Kathy Griffin‘s name I see on tonight’s guest list?

What will you be watching tonight? Please share in the comments!
