TV on Tap: Lifetime Wants a Clarice Starling Drama, “Men at Work” Has an Okay Start and Will Forte May Still Be “Rebounding”

On Memorial Day, Independent Lens is going To Hell and Back Again.

News

Thomas Harrris‘s books have been heavily adapted for film, now his characters are getting the television treatment. We’re waiting for the arrival of Bryan Fuller‘s Hannibal and now Lifetime is developing a series focused on Agent Clarice Starling shortly after she graduated from the FBI academy. I hope this proceeds to the point where we get a series about the misadventures of Buffalo Bill‘s dog.

Having purchased Microsoft’s share of MSNBC in 2007, NBC is reportedly thinking of taking full ownership of MSNBC.com.

Cougar Town has found its new showrunner in the form of Ric Swarzlander, whose credits include Samantha Who, The Ellen Show and 8 Simple Rules.

Did you ever want to see a poster featuring Community‘s Dean Pelton in 34 different costumes he’s worn on the show? One will be part of a Community-themed art show scheduled for the weekend of June 23 in Los Angeles.

Nowadays, there are usually a few pilots not picked up for the new schedule that the grapevine says might get a second chance to become a series. Now, Deadline says Rebounding, a comedy where Will Forte plays a man who turns to his pickup basketball team to help recover from the death of his fiancee, may get a second chance on cable. USA Network is looking for an original comedy to pair with repeats of Modern Family and Rebounding does share producer Steven Levitan with Modern Family.

The latest addition to the list of great TV-inspired Tumblr blogs I adore is Movie Simpsons where movie references in The Simpsons are paired with the scene that inspired it.

In ratings news, TBS’ new sitcom Men at Work had a decent start, improving on the time slot by 14% (where it replaced repeats of The Big Bang Theory), but it didn’t do as well as TBS’ many Tyler Perry comedies.

South Park Marathon (Comedy Central) starting at 9:00 AM ET
Comedy Central is marking Memorial Day by spending twelve hours in the most foul-mouthed part of Colorado, including that episode about a certain anti-gay slur beginning with the letter F.

American Ninja Warrior Marathon (G4) starting at 1:00 PM ET
We’re in the second week of the new season and there’s already enough material for a six-hour catchup marathon… and there’s a whole lot of hot guys to appreciate too. Did you catch the inked stuntman who runs the course in a tux speedo?

Independent Lens (PBS) Check local listings
PBS is commemorating Memorial Day with Hell and Back Again which follows photojournalist Danfung Dennis, who profiled a Marine platoon stationed in Afghanistan in 2009 as well as one wounded soldier’s return home.

The Golden Girls Marathon (WETV) starting at 6:00 PM ET
You can spend your Memorial Day evening with Blanche, Dorothy, Rose and Sophia that goes until the early hours of Tuesday.

America’s Got Talent (NBC) 8:00 PM ET
Sigh. AGT finally got rid of Piers‘ homophobia, but we still have Nick Cannon with his “Ew! Nobody wants to see that!” to the sight of buff guys taking their shirts off. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that’s the last of AGT‘s guys desperately asserting their heterosexuality.

Hatfields & McCoys (History) 9:00 PM ET
The reviews for History’s miniseries about one of the most infamous feuds in American history may not have great reviews but it does have Noel Fisher as a developmentally disabled, illegitimate member of the Hatfield clan. How badly do you miss Mickey Milkovich?

American Ninja Warrior (NBC) 9:00 PM ET
The Midwest Division had a disappointing number of competitors unable to complete the course, but at least these guys started a trend of losing their shirts as a victory celebration. Let’s hope that continues through the  division finals.

Mrs. Eastwood & Company (E!) 10:00 PM ET
Two nights of two episodes in  in a row?  I’m not sure about that, not unless there’s more of the awkward Eddie drama. Unfortunately, the episode description says tonight has Fancesca suspecting that Dina has hoarder tendencies.

Workaholics Marathon (Comedy Central) starting at 11:00 PM ET
Comedy Central is following a day in South Park by spending three hours with the homoerotic bro-antics of Blake, Adam and Anders.

What will you be watching tonight? Please share in the comments!
