TV on Tap: Ross Mathews Takes Over for Chelsea Handler, “Sherlock” Renewed and TiVo Users Love a Tina Fey Photobomb

Oh, yes. He’s back.

News

Next week, Ross Mathews will step up as guest-host of Chelsea Lately for the entire week. This certainly sounds like good news for the talk show E! is developing for him.

With the second season of Sherlock wrapped in the UK (U.S. fans will have to wait until May) we’ve already got news that a third season is coming. That makes me happy, though I’d be happier if PBS announced they’re pushing up the air date of the second season (Doctor Who fans’ complaints about Syfy seem quaint in hindsight.).

With TV channels increasingly using social networks, will 2012 be the year of must-tweet TV?

I’ve been slowly getting more and more interested in Lifetime’s upcoming prostitution drama The Client List as more and more cast members are announced. The latest addition is the amazing Loretta Devine, who will play the manager of the series’ massage parlor-slash-prostitution ring.

TiVo has analyzed how its viewers watched The Golden Globe Awards and the award ceremony’s top three moments were Ricky Gervais‘ introduction of Melissa McCarthy, Tina Fey photobombing Amy Poehler and the teleprompter failing on Rob Lowe and Julianne Moore.

The hype asking who Ricky Gervais would offend as host of the Golden Globes didn’t bring additional viewers as ratings were basically flat from last year’s ceremony. Meanwhile, football helped Fox get a strong debut out of Napoleon Dynamite, which doubled Alan Gregory‘s average ratings.
