TV on Tap: “The Amazing Race” Plans Another “Big Brother” Crossover and What Killed “All My Children” and “One Life to Live”‘s Future Online?

Brenda and Sharon are back in new episodes of The Closer.

There have been a lot of rumors about the future of Amy and Rory on Doctor Who and one thing is clear, we’ll only see them briefly in this year’s Christmas special. I think that leaves us with a few months of articles speculating if they’ll be back for the next season.

You’ve probably heard the disappointing news that All My Children and One Life to Live won’t live on as web serials. Now, there’s a fight over who deserves the blame for the venture’s failure. Prospect Park, which was going to produce the soaps, blames the unions. Meanwhile one of the unions involved, AFTRA, says that Prospect Park hasn’t responded to them in a month.

Ugh. The latest casting spoiler for the next season of The Amazing Race says two more irritating Big Brother alums will be participate next season. The last time TAR included some past Big Brother houseguests, we got a barely-watchable season with tasks that seemed largely dumbed-down from the usual.

In news that will further sour me on CBS’ reality shows, Jeff Probst said in an interview that “Villains are who you want to watch on TV” and those are the kind of people who work on Survivor. I get that a Russell Hantz can make for interesting TV but people like Mondo, Pandora Boxx or Carla Hall can also get viewers emotionally invested in a show. A common observation about reality TV says that everybody who watched The Apprentice remembers Omarosa, but only a few can remember who won her season. Well, I think something similar could be said about Mondo, Boxx and Hall. Probst’s comment explains why I’ve been bored the last few times I’ve tried to watch Survivor.

If you Smallville fans have been missing seeing Justin Hartley on screen, the former Green Arrow will appear in an upcoming episode of Castle along with White Collar newcomer Hilarie Burton. Hartley and Burton will play a famous reality TV couple that will remind viewers of the Kardashians just a little bit.

The guest-hosts for next week’s Live! with Kelly will include Dancing with the StarsDerek Hough, Jonah Hill and Josh Groban.

In ratings news, ABC was the most-watched network of the night despite all of its series hitting season lows, while most people decided to watch a Big Bang Theory rerun over Thanksgiving specials. Among the specials, the new Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas beat A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, though both did well. Interestingly, a large number of the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving viewers stuck around to watch A Very Gaga Thanksgiving and the special did 23% better than the Beyonce concert ABC aired last Thanksgiving.
