The CW is planning a spin-off of Supernatural. Generally, I like the idea of a spin-off but it’s my least favorite kind: a backdoor pilot spin-off focusing on an a character we haven’t met yet. That character that will be introduced in the 20th episode of the upcoming season. Isn’t there enough depth to the Supernatural universe to create a series around an established character? I liked Christian Campbell‘s character — and the idea of Christian Campbell in a TV series with no awkward facial hair. On a more exciting note, Felicia Day will return as lesbian nerd Charlie.

Supernatural, "Man's Best Friend with Benefits"I thought they’d make a fun spin-off when the episode originally aired.

Spice Girl Geri Halliwell is developing a comedy where she plays a fictionalized version of herself. As much as I’ve become weary about that particular genre,, it could be fun with a Spice Girl

How did ESPN2 manage to draw stats-guru Nate Silver away from The New York Times? Politico says (sorry, I couldn’t find a permalink, so you might need to scroll down a bit) that Silver was offered access to other parts of the Disney corporate family including the Oscars and ABC News. I wonder if there’s a numerical way to predict which celebrity will get the most memorably stupid question.

In seven seasons of Gilmore Girls, Rory Gilmore was shown reading 340 books and one Sydney-based fan is working his way through The Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge.

Despite attempts to sell it to another network, there will not be a Beverly Hills Cop TV series.

AMC has picked Chris Hardwick to host its post-Breaking Bad talk show, Talking Bad.

The Carrie Diaries has cast newcomer Lindsey Gort as the young version of an iconic Sex and the City character.

Jason Momoa has joined the upcoming Sundance drama The Red Road, according to The Holywood Reporter. The series follows a small-town sheriff trying to balance the needs of his town with the Ramapo Mountain tribe. Mamoa will play a Ramapo-Indian and son of a crime lord, sent to town to establish a new crime operation.

Cobie Smulders will appear in the pilot episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as well as a yet-to-be-determined number of future episodes. This balances out (slightly) Joss Whedon’s recent challenging my trust in his creative instincts.

It turns out all that social network buzz did get people to watch Sharknado, just not the original broadcast. Last Thursday’s repeat was watched by 1.9 million viewers. Last week, 1.4 million viewers watched the Syfy Original Movie’s broadcast debut.

Broadway week is here starting with a performance from the cast of Pippin as well as interviews with Octavia Spencer and Daniel Sunjata.

It’s not clear if Sonny appears today, but Adrienne does something to try to “protect” him, which is bound to affect his storyline.

Switched at Birth (ABC Family) 8:00 PM ET
It’s back to the courtroom — for real this time, not an imaginary story! Angelo has his first meeting in his fight for custody of his infant daughter. Since he brings Bay along let’s hope he doesn’t actually say he’s looking for a second chance to be a good father.

Switched at Birth, "Prudence, Avarice, Lust, Justice Anger"

Cat. 8 (Reelz) 8:00 PM ET
Made-for-TV-disaster movies aren’t just for Syfy anymore. Reelz steps into the genre. Matthew Modine stars in this tale of a “government outsider and renegade scientist” working to save the world from a giant fireball from space.

The Fosters (ABC Family) 9:00 PM ET
I’m starting to think The Fosters is like Scandal if you substituted the rapid-pace plot twists with social issues. It sounds like this week adds alcohol abuse to the list as Stef starts to notice how much Mike has been drinking. (There’s also the drug abuse storyline, which has Jesus meeting his birth mother Ana.) Meanwhile, this week also introduces Lena‘s ex-girlfriend, who I hope will bring a discussion of financial regulation into the show

The Fosters, "Clean"That body language is never a good sign.

Major Crimes (TNT) 9:00 PM ET
Rusty meets Kris‘ parents this week, which should give him an opportunity to awkwardly look away anytime someone mentions how Kris’ previous boyfriend turned out to be gay. I’m keeping my fingers crossed it also means more chances for Mary McDonnell‘s amused reaction to people making presumptions about Rusty’s sexual orientation.

Below Deck (Bravo) 10:00 PM ET
Apparently, Adrienne has friends who can afford to rent a yacht since they’re this week’s difficult clients. They’re especially frustrating for Sam and Ben to work for.

Major Crimes, "Rules of Engagement"

Teen Wolf (MTV) 10:00 PM ET
Now that they’ve lost one of their own, Derek‘s pack is seeking revenge. Still, from the looks of things I think we’re going to get to meet a young Derek Hale. I suspect that’s going to be the takeaway from this episode.

Under the Dome (CBS) 10:00 PM ET
It’s visitors’ day at the Chester’s Mill dome as separated friends and family are allowed to step up to the edge of the dome to try to communicate. However, it’s not a happy occasion, since the government has decided to skip testing different levels of explosives on the dome and just send some kind of missile at the dome.
