Ben Feldman Joins “The Mindy Project” and Robbie Williams Could Have Been “Doctor Who”

News

TV Line reports that Ben Feldman will be playing a love interest for Mindy on The Mindy Project. He joins a list of love interests that include Timothy Olyphant and Glenn Howerton. I guess that means Mindy is going to focus on the lead character’s awkward romantic life, which was the part worked best.

HBO has ordered a pilot for a J.J. Abrams-produced drama inspired by the 1973 movie Westworld. The movie was about an amusement park where realistic androids allow people to live out fantasies they wouldn’t be able to with humans. (And, yes, it ends the same way as The Simpsons‘ trip to Itchy and Scratchy Land.)

Is The Newsroom in danger of ending? Buzzfeed says that HBO is interested in ordering a third season, but series creator Aaron Sorkin is too busy and not creatively ready for it.

NBC is developing a comedy from a former The Office writer that will take place at a Detroit car company.

Robbie Williams almost got to perform as the voice of The Doctor in the animated Doctor Who story, “Scream of the Shalka”. I have to admit that sounds like a lot of fun.

A lot of 70s sitcoms were set in New York City but were recorded on L.A. sound stages, so they had to turn to the opening credits to create a sense of setting.

Listings

Parks & Recreation Marathon (FXX) starting at 7:00 AM ET
The Fox Soccer Channel becomes FXX today and they’re celebrating their debut by spending 17 hours in Pawnee, which probably counts as treating yourself, to paraphrase Tom and Donna.

Adam Scott as Parks & Recreation's Ben WyattSpending theĀ  day with Ben Wyatt sounds pretty nice.

The Haves and the Have Nots (OWN) starting at 9:00 AM ET
Sure, OWN’s hit soap is largely about covering up Jim‘s affair, Candace making blackmail threats and Jeffrey being creepy, but since it’s Labor Day I guess we should spend today’s 17-hour marathon focusing on the scenes where maids Hannah and Celine try to work. Then again, since most of that involves Celine strange possessiveness of Kathryn, maybe we should just pay attention to the blackmail and scheming. As we usually do.

American Ninja Warrior (NBC) 8:00 PM ET
Since G4 didn’t get an installment yesterday, tonight brings two hours of competitors facing Midoriyama. Here’s hoping we move on to round two soon.

The Comedy Central Roast of James Franco (Comedy Central) 10:00 PM ET
James Franco is the target of punchlines from Sarah Silverman, Andy Samberg, Bill Hader and Aziz Ansari. Word is that we should expect plenty of gay jokes, though with Franco that could easily mean zingers about Franco’s interest in homoeroticsm.

Under the Dome (CBS) 10:00 PM ET
Big Jim uses Barbie‘s past to his advantage, which is probably this week’s excuse for the residents to behave terribly.

The Writers’ Room (Sundance) 10:00 PM ET
This talk show debuted by talking with the Breaking Bad team just before the debut of its highly-anticipated final season. The season ends with Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and the American Horror Story team.

Below Deck (Bravo) 10:00 PM ET
As one of the few Bravo reality shows about people who actually work, it’s probably fitting that they get their reunion show on Labor Day. I’m expecting this to be about the drama that focused CJ and Adrienne, even though I mostly want to hear from David.
