In a surprising development for streaming video, Amazon Prime has obtained the rights to HBO shows. Don’t cancel your cable subscription just yet, the deal only covers older HBO shows, plus Girls and Veep episodes that are more than three years old. Still, the news is a pretty big deal. Netflix has long had older episodes of Showtime’s series (and now Hulu has a few shows), but HBO has resisted letting its shows appear anywhere but HBO Go. Game of Thrones and True Detective as well as Sex and the City (which airs in syndication) aren’t included.

Recently, CBS renewed The Big Bang Theory for three seasons, which would take it to season ten. Showrunner Steve Molaro tells The Hollywood Reporter that, for now at least, he’s approaching that tenth season as the final one, which would give the show a Friends-sized run.

HBO is adapting J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy into a mini-series. It’ll be a co-production with the BBC, which previously announced they were working on an adaptation of Rowling’s novel.

Lifetime has ordered a reality series set in a convent, following five women as they decide whether they will take their perpetual vows. It comes from the producers of Breaking Amish, so bring your grain of salt.

Sigh. VH1 has cancelled the revival of Best Week Ever. Sadly, the only part I’ll miss is Michelle Buteau‘s “Panties On, Panties Off”. Spin-off?

Hoping to make the old rallying cry “Six Seasons and a Movie” happen, the cast of Community (and Nathan Fillion) have been tweeting fake movie posters. The latest was a Castaway take-off featuring Donald Glover.

Meg Ryan will play the voice of the mother in the pilot for the How I Met Your Mother spin-off, How I Met Your Dad.

The books that provide the basis for The Vampire Diaries took an odd turn three years ago when the publisher objected to the latest book and fired author L.J. Smith, hiring a ghostwriter to continue the series under Smith’s name. Now, the story gets odder as Smith (the real one, not the ghostwriter) has started selling new Vampire Diaries tales — under the Amazon program that allows people to sell their fanfiction for certain properties. The Amazon program has received criticism for requiring writers to sign away all their rights, but Smith says she’s just writing because of her love of the characters. Or maybe the publisher found a way to sell their ghostwritten novels as well as ones written by Smith.

Bravo is developing another scripted pilot. All the Pretty Faces would follow two feuding families in Half Moon Bay, California who come together over a murder. So the basic starting soap plot — except the two families are also seeking the secret of immortality.

Oh. Dear. Sheldon attempts to display some spontaneity. Apparently, that starts with suggesting that they order a calzone and cut it up to eat like pizza. This will probably go as well as when Sheldon attempts to express affection.

JIm Parsons in "The Big Bang Theory"Maybe Sheldon also heard Miss Cleo shout “Call me now!” and contacted a psychic right away?

As the Travelers get closer to performing their ritual, Enzo has a violent freakout in the middle of a flashback to election night, 1960. I guess he remembers how Richard Nixon looked during the televised debates.

Ed Begley Jr is back as Father Timothy, with new ideas about how to get Portland residents to find church interesting. Maybe Pabst Blue Ribbon clone homebrew night? Meanwhile, the city gets its first 3D printer.

It’s a battle over empty couch space and break room snacks as Johnny gets mad about his favorite donut being eaten and considers letting Brian into the “neutral zone”.  I hear the UK version of Sirens tackles serious issues. In the states, we get a fight about who ate the last Bavarian Cream.

Brett Gelman (who you’ll probably recognize from playing weirdos on Go On and Happy Endings) gives Adult Swim its take on the dinner party talk show with Gilbert Gottfried, Alison Pill, Dale Dickey, Lance Reddick, Fred Melamed and Alex Karpovsky. It’s Adult Swim so don’t expect it to stay calm and civilized for long.
