“Warehouse 13″ Picture Recap: “Lonely Misfit Toys”

PREVIOUSLY ON WAREHOUSE 13.

This week’s episode of Warehouse 13 ended on a surprising and a shocking note, but in between we had some great scenes with Steve, who opened up to Abigail about his insecurities and fears.

Actually, with the addition of Abigail as a sixth team member, we have three stories this episode, and each one has its memorable moments.

Pete and Myka: The A Team have to track down an artifact that is affecting seemingly random people in seemingly random ways in a gated community (of course, nothing is ever random when it comes to an artifact), with the incidents connected to immoral and sinful behavior. In what turns out to be one of the more intriguing artifacts we’ve seen, they trace the deadly occurrences to in-mourning housewife Cynthia Watross (from Lost), who’s been using a mask made from the salt at the destruction of Sodom & Gomorrah to inflict people with ironic punishments (so the lawyer who sent an innocent man to death row dies of lethal injection, an arsonist is burned, and a MILF is bonded to her horny conquest).

The only way to combat the effect is to confess your “sin,” and when Pete becomes the mask’s victim (thanks to his love for salt-tainted cookies) and breaks both legs, he has to confess to Myka that years ago he drove drunk with his best friend in the car, and when he crashed into a tree, his friend was nearly killed, and broke both his legs. Pete hasn’t touched alcohol since, and his open confession negates the power of the artifact, and he’s healed. They tag and bag the mask, and the mission is over.

Back at the warehouse, Myka undergoes her annual physical, and gets a clean bill of health. Oh, except for a touch of Ovarian Cancer.

Claudia and Artie: The B Team have to track down a homeless kid who’s doing impossibly complex mathematical equations in graffiti form. They befriend the kid, named Nick (Josh Blaylock), and Claudia takes a sisterly interest in him, having experienced many of the same hardships when she was growing up. The artifact turns out to be Wright Brother Goggles, and after they bag it, Claudia invites Nick to stay at the Warehouse “for a few days,” until he can figure out his next step.

Aww! Claudia has a big heart, and Nick is obviously a good kid who’s experienced some hard knocks.

Back at the Warehouse, Claudia introduces him to the rest of the team, and when he has a sec, Nick texts the joyous news that he’s found a place to stay. He doesn’t put it in those words, though. “They believe me. I’m in.”

Steve and Abigail: They had the C story, but it was my favorite. After a gross attempt at cleaning out the GOOERY, Abigail gets Steve to open up about his insecurities and fears. Boffing his ex again, and receiving the last of his personal belongings has made him realize that his entire life is now at the Warehouse. He’s now as settled in as Pete, Myka and Claudia, and it scares him a bit. “They say you get to share your Warehouse life with one very important person, and none of them have found anybody, and I’m about ten times more shy than they are.”

Abigail tells her story of how she came to the Warehouse, and how it’s changed everything she thought she knew, and Steve tells her “We’re a bunch of lonely misfit toys that the Warehouse collects.” I LOVE that line. It perfectly describes this weird but loving family.
She tells him “You said you were afraid you wouldn’t find that special someone to share your life with. It seems to me that now you might have four special unique someones. And they might be your one for now, and maybe it’s time you share a little more of yourself with them.”

Those are great scenes, and I hope Steve will take that advice.

By asking Claudia for her brother’s number. Okay, that’s the last time I’m going to bring it up, I promise!

So, this Nick boy is there to cause trouble, and Myka has obvious health issues to deal with. There are only three more episodes this season, so the tension is going to start building. Are we heading for another cliffhanger?
