Wilson Phillips on Drag Homages and Chick-fil-A

Wilson Phillips (Wendy Phillips, Carnie Wilson & Chynna Phillips) are back in the spotlight

Believe it or not, it’s been 22 years since the Wilson Phillips hit song “Hold On” topped the charts and brought the offspring of members of The Mamas and the Papas and The Beach Boys – Chynna Phillips, Wendy Phillips and Carnie Wilson – to the pop culture limelight. And while they’ve popped up here and there over the years, the past twelve months has see a major resurgence for the trio.

First, the ladies and their song “Hold On” figured prominently in the climax of last summer’s hit film Bridesmaids. Then, Chynna went on to be a contestant last fall on ABC’s popular Dancing With The Stars. And, just this week, the new Wilson Phillips CD Dedicated was released featuring songs that made their parents famous, like “Good Vibrations” and “Dedicated To The One I Love.”

The album release coincides nicely with the launch of their new reality series, Still Holding On, which premieres on the TV Guide Network this Sunday.

And then there’s that Chick-fil-A video featuring William Belli, Detox and Vicky Vox!

While fans of the video clearly love it and its homage to “Hold On,” AfterElton jumped at the chance to ask Wendy, Chynna and Carnie what they thought of it earlier this week during a press junket promoting their TV Guide Network series.

“Well, imitation is a form of flattery,” said Wendy.

Carnie added, “Wow, it was intense. I was kind of trippin’ out…I love drag queens, are you kidding me? Oh my God, that part I was in heaven!”

“We love that they took the time to express themselves,” said Chynna. “Obviously they felt very passionately about the fact that they were feeling demoralized and they wanted to make sure that they got the word out there and anybody can eat at Chick-fil-A and they don’t want to feel ostracized in any way, and they went out there and they did something about it. So, I give them a lot of respect for that. Lots of kudos.”

Wilson Phillips: Still Holding On premieres Sunday, April 8th at 9pm et/pt on the TV Guide Network. The CD, Dedicated, is available for download on their website.
